Elizabeth

Elizabeth is my niece and almost a real fairy! I wanted to give her gossamer wings but I didn't think my sister would get it.
A portrait demands more than spontaneous brush work. Trying to get a likeness is such a tricky thing, overwork it and the painting looses it's spirit but not enough attention to detail and it's missing a good likeness.
I have two important goals, please my client and capture not only a physical likeness but a spiritual one. Lofty, I know, but this one was pretty easy, not much quess work since I see her often and know her well.

This is truely a wonderful portrait! She is so angelic, etherial, well I could go on. You've captured her innocence. I love how she's holding her locket "heart". I like the dark background it gives it an old fashion look,I mean that in a good way. Your sister must be so excited to have this wonderful painting!!
Cheryl, I'm so glad you think it has an old fashioned look. My sister's house is filled with antiques and I wanted Elizabeth's portrait to fit in.
Oh, it will fit in very nicely...I'm from the east coast and miss all the wonderful antiques and homes. My home here in CA has some antiques (not as much as i'd like) and many people here don't understand it. It's a wonderful portrait, do more of these!! I love your technique!
Beautiful, beautiful. What a treasure for your niece. I can tell you painted it with love.
Welcome back! I've missed your posts!
This is BEAUTIFUL! with a capital WOW! This painting glows and is definitely spiritual. I also see movement, energy wise, can't explain it but it does.
Hi Emm,
It is wonderful to see a posting from you again. This one was so very worth waiting for! She could step off the painting, and I would not be surprised. I love the way her hair is blowing and the expression on her face. The low key of color just makes the face so much more the focus. It is evident that this was painted with love. So beautiful - so inspirational. Again. :-)
Absolutely beautiful and full of spirit, Marcia.
you are inspirational !! - thanks for sharing your work
I love the whispy hair, very nice portrait. Ethereal.

This is a stunning painting, beautifully rendered in every way! I truly admire your skill as an artist.
"Elizabeth" is a beautiful painting - you have such fantastic talent!
I'm sure your sister will love it too. I think your goals are perfect too - if I were to commission a portrait I would want to artist to find express the essence of her in the painting.
Glad everyone likes the painting. I haven't posted in a while as I am working on four big paintings all at once, I am content in my work but impatient to see how they turn out, will keep you posted!
